Spain is well known for its outstanding food and wines. Actually, it is usual to find Spanish restaurants and Spanish cooks leading the list of the world's 50 best restaurants but not only that. You don't have to go to one of those restaurants to eat well. In Spain the food is awesome and fun in every corner.

The 5 first dishes is just to give you an idea of what you should NOT skip when you spend your vacation in Spain.

 

Paella

Definitely the first dish is this traditional Spanish rice originated in Valencia region, and nowadays you can eat it everywhere in Spain. It is yellow rice with meat and or seafood seasoned with spices and saffron. Most recipes include shrimp, calamari, clams, chicken and seafood. These ingredients are cooked in olive oil in a large saucepan. The result is a very tasty rice.

It is normally the main dish of a meal.

You can enjoy it with sangria, cold White wine or beer.

 

 

Tapas

Tapas are not a particular food; They are a sort of little dishes that Spaniards eat everywhere day or night and are part of the Spanish culture.

Each tapa is different and you can find different types and look:

- Patatas bravas (potatoes with a spicy sauce)

- Pinchos (bread covered with meat/cheese/vegetables/seafood and sauces)

- Seafood

- Fried fish

- Tapa de Jamón, cheese, fuet ...

 

Jamón (Spanish ham)

Spanish ham is well known internationally. It is a cured pork leg with salt and its taste is amazing. Normally it is served with some bread, or in the area of Catalonia, over bread with tomato.

This dish can be ordered as a tapa, or starter.

You can drink a good red wine.

 

 

Tortilla de patatas (Spanish omelet)

This is other typical Spanish dish, although the king might be Paella this is just behind it. The recipe is really easy and it is made with eggs and potatoes, sometimes also with some onions. Everything is mixed together and cooked. 

It can be served cold or warm and takes really good. It normally comes with some salad or it can be ordered as tapa. 

This dish can be ordered as tapa and you can drink anything with it.

 

 

Sangria

This is a typical drink usually served during summer. It is made with red wine, orange and lemon juice and it might be spiced with some spirit like gin.

It must be served very cold with pieces of fruit in it. It is not only good; it is FUN.
